　　A stiff material exhibits very small deformations even when subjected to large forces.
 
　　剛度描述的是在材料受到一個(gè)比較大的力的狀況下，產(chǎn)生非常小的形變。
 
　　通常與Force-extension圖像的斜率掛鉤。
 
　　Ductility/Ductile
 
　　延展性
 
　　A ductile material is able to undergo permanently deformation under tensile stress.
 
　　Copper is a good example,it can easily be drawn out into thin wires.
 
　　具有延展性的材料是在拉力的作用下能產(chǎn)生比較大的永久變形（也就是塑性變形）。
 
　　舉個(gè)例子，銅可以很容易的拉成絲就是ductile的表現(xiàn)。

　　A malleable material is able to undergo permanently deformation under compressive stress.Copper is a good example,it can easily be hammered into thin sheet.
 
　　Malleable也是延展性的意思，與ductile略有不同。Malleable是材料受到壓力而產(chǎn)生的永久變形。
 
　　比如說銅可以被壓成銅片。
 
　　Brittleness/Brittle
 
　　脆性
 
　　A brittle material will extend obeying Hooke’s Law when a stress is applied to it.It will suddenly fracture with no warning sign of plastic deformation.Glass,pottery and chocolate are examples of brittle materials.
 
　　脆性材料描述的是材料受力的狀況下還沒來得及產(chǎn)生塑性形變或者只產(chǎn)生一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)塑性形變，就斷裂了。
 
　　比如說玻璃等。
 
　　Toughness/Tough
 
　　韌性
 
　　A tough material is able to absorb a lot of energy in the plastic region.
 
　　具有韌性的材料受力狀況下在產(chǎn)生塑性形變的過程中會吸收巨大的能量。
 
　　比如說crumple zone在劇烈的撞擊過程中會通過形變吸收巨大的能量。
 
　　Strength/Strong
 
　　強(qiáng)度
 
　　An object is strong if it can withstand a large force before it breaks.
 
　　強(qiáng)度不關(guān)心材料是否具有塑性形變，只關(guān)心在斷裂之前能夠承受的最大的力。
